Way to go, Jean
She had no idea how many or which one she kept alive. All she did was return home at a particular time – a particular time that made all the difference. Did she get held up in line at a store and run a little later than usual? Did a parking place open up and save her some time? Did she run out of gas? Was traffic slow?
How many little things happened that day that added up to her returning home at that exact moment? I don’t know. I was too “heart-broken” to ask.
You see, I was in the woods next door bow hunting just before sunset. After some time sitting in a cold stand watching and waiting, five deer seemed to just appear out of nowhere the way they do so well. And they were coming to see ME! Just a few more steps and they would be in range with no brush between them and me. Just a few more breath-taking moments and I would return home in victory.
Then I heard a rumbling to my far right – about 100 yards away. The deer noticed it too. Surely they were used to traffic and would just wait and then move on up and over into range like the good little deer I hoped they would be. This time they didn’t. This time the timing and distance and whatever else came together and spooked them and off they went out of sight, out of range and to safety for that day…and I went home and Eddy laughed…and Jean had no idea.
How many “little things” pleasant or not so pleasant, convenient or inconvenient come together each day to possibly make a life or eternity-nudging or even life or eternity-changing difference and we have no clue? We have no clue this side of eternity.
What we do know is that God promises that He will see to it that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.
While even the hairs on our heads are numbered and no sparrow is beyond God’s care and notice, God didn’t give Himself to live a sinless life, die in their place, rise in victory, offer them His forgiveness and power for life, offer them His Holy Spirit and prepare eternal homes for them, but He has done all this and more FOR YOU.
Let’s try to keep this in mind as we choose how to live and respond to ALL the events of each day entrusted to us. After all all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. Let’s look for this when things go and don’t go OUR way. God has a plan and a purpose and it’s a plan for life and eternity…You never know what’s happening less than 100 yards away or in the heart of those around you at the particular time and place God places you. Be ready, be aware, be Christ-like.
